Bob Shields

Bob Shields is a jazz guitarist who has regularly appeared in clubs in Toronto, Canada and surrounding area for 15 years. He performs in duets, trios, up to big band ensembles. Performed with many fine Canadian musicians, including Kenny Wheeler, while attending University of Toronto. He has also played with Dave Young, Mike Malone and Alex Dean.

Bob has been writing and performing with his own jazz trio for the last three years and has recorded one CD "Sketches" with that group.

 

He also has many years experience in other styles of music, including all forms of rock, blues and pop, as well as pit orchestra experience for off-Broadway musicals.

Bob is a principle instrument teacher in both the Mohawk College and McMaster University jazz programs in Ontario, Canada. He is a visiting clinician at secondary schools, and teaches guitar, harmony and composition privately.

His education includes a Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction from University of Toronto 1997 (teacher Lorne Lofsky), where he won the Glenn Gould Memorial scholarship for academic and musical excellence, and an Honours Diploma from Mohawk College in 1991 (teacher Reg Schwager).

Bob and his wife Carol have a daughter, Emma, age 5.
